DUTCHY LABS FAQ'S

1. What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring non-psychoactive chemical compound extracted from the hemp plant, also known as a cannabinoid. It is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in hemp, also known as Cannabis Sativa L.

2. Is CBD legal in the UK?
CBD products are legal in the UK as long as they don’t contain controlled cannabinoids THC and CBN. We believe in transparency and integrity, so every Dutchy Labs formula is rigorously tested for controlled cannabinoids by an ISO-accredited, 3rd party testing company.

Our products do not contain THC or CBN and our testing programme means we can guarantee each contains the amount of CBD stated on the label.

3. Is CBD safe?
Short answer, yes! In a 2018 report in CBD, the World Health Organisation (WHO) found that:

CBD is generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.
To date, there is no evidence of recreational use of CBD or any public health-related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.
To read the WHO report in full, click here.

4. Does CBD Oil have side effects?
Some people have reported side effects when using CBD, which may include a dry mouth, low blood pressure, lightheadedness and drowsiness, but these are rare. Other reports of adverse effects have mostly been linked to taking CBD oil whilst on other medication.

5. Will CBD interfere with my medication?
The WHO stated in its 2018 report that CBD is well tolerated and has a good safety profile. However, medication involves chemicals which, naturally, could react with CBD Oil. The best advice we can give anybody on medication is to speak to your doctor before you start taking or applying CBD. They will know if your medication might be impacted and will advise you fully as to safety.

6. Will I get ‘high’ from taking CBD?
No, you won’t. You get high when you experience a psychoactive reaction to taking a mind-altering chemical, which could be anything from mild to extreme. We routinely test every product for psychoactives, and as you can see from our 3rd party test results*, neither compound is present. (*add in link) The only compounds in cannabis that are psychoactive are THC and CBN – both of which are controlled substances in the UK, so we wouldn’t use them in our products anyway.

7. Could I fail a drug test?
No, you won’t fail a drug test based on taking CBD alone. Drug tests are designed to detect THC and while Dutchy Labs products may contain miniscule amounts of THC, these are untraceable in our own testing, so you will definitely not fail a drugs test for cannabis or THC as a result of using our products.

8. Is CBD addictive?
No, it isn’t. In its 2018 report on CBD, the WHO defined CBD as non-habit-forming.

9. Is CBD safe for children?
Due to the lack of definitive legal guidelines provided by the FSA and MHRA, we cannot at this stage recommend CBD oil for children, unless prescribed by a specialist doctor.

10. Can I use CBD while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Unfortunately very few studies exist examining the safety of CBD and pregnancy.
In the absence of clearer direction, we have to follow the guidelines set by the FSA and they have clearly stated that they do not recommend CBD products for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

11. Is it safe to travel with my CBD products?
The key here is to check if CBD is legal in the jurisdiction to which you are travelling.
Right now, several countries around the world have effectively legalised both recreational and medicinal cannabis. However, in some countries there is little distinction between recreational and medicinal cannabis-derived products – and taking them in is a total no-no – even within Europe.

We strongly advise travelers to carefully research and understand the laws of the country they are visiting before packing their CBD products. While you can probably find this info online, the safest way to be sure is by speaking to a customs agent or an embassy official directly. You may also be able to find out from your airline or airport officials. As CBD gains acceptance around the world, so the rules and regulations around it are likely to change, so checking them on a regular basis is a good idea.

12. How does CBD work?
Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids, which interact with receptors (CB1 and CB2, also present in our bodies) to help the homeostatic regulation of pain, inflammation, appetite, mood and memory, as well as coordination and movement. CBD is a plant-derived cannabinoid which, when ingested, affects our bodies in the same way our own endocannabinoids do. When CBD enters the bloodstream, it interacts directly with the endocannabinoid system. Research into the possible uses of CBD and other cannabis compounds is a growing area of study, meaning the list of potential benefits is still not fully explored and likely to grow.

13. What is the endocannabinoid system (ECS)?
A molecular system composed of cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoid molecules and their metabolic enzymes – in simple terms, the ECS is responsible for regulating biological functions such as pain, mood, immune system, sleep, fertility and memory, among many others. It works by using human cannabinoids (endocannabinoids) to pass on ‘messages’ to receptors which will help maintain the body’s homeostasis (physiological equilibrium). Cannabinoids found in the Hemp plant are called phytocannabinoids and work the same way as endocannabinoids once they enter our body. These cannabinoids include CBD and interact with our ECS, signalling to cells within our immune system and organs to work towards homeostasis (balance) in our body.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) was discovered in the 1990’s based on the work during the 1960s of the ‘Father of Cannabis’, Raphael Mechoulam. While we owe Mechoulam a debt of gratitude, every year we are learning more about the benefits of cannabinoids – check out our research section for the latest information.

Click here for more scientific information on the ECS.

14. What is the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD and Tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC) are both cannabinoids and the two main compounds in the cannabis plant. CBD is non-psychotropic and will not get you ‘high’, while THC is psycho-active and will likely prove mind-altering.

15. Why take CBD?

There are many studies indicating the potential benefits of CBD and more research is needed around serious conditions including cancer and toxic cancer treatments. We will hopefully see further development of the cannabis industry and medical research, so everyone can legally and safely obtain the most effective formula for their respective condition.
Since their discovery, endocannabinoids have been found to play a role in memory, mood, appetite and metabolism, sleep, pain response, thermoregulation and immunity. Around the world many people swear by CBD to help relieve anxiety, stress, sleep issues and insomnia, depression, inflammation, back pain and in balancing the immune system – and scientists are beginning, tentatively, to embrace the potential of CBD.

“CBD may be useful as a treatment for patients with psychotic symptoms like paranoia and anxiety, as well as depression.”

– Professor Philip McGuire, Head of Department of Psychosis Studies at Kings College, London.

“Together with collaborators, we have obtained preclinical evidence that CBD would reduce cancer chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.”

– Roger G Pertwee, professor at the Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen.

16. Will CBD help with my specific condition/illness?

Dutchy Labs CBD oil is sold as a food supplement and we cannot legally make any medical claims based on the CBD content. Our products are not intended to treat, cure or prevent any specific illness or disease, but they are widely linked anecdotally with many positive outcomes.

17. What’s in Dutchy Labs CBD Oil?

Dutchy Labs CBD oil is sold as a food supplement and we cannot legally make any medical claims based on the CBD content. Our products are not intended to treat, cure or prevent any specific illness or disease, but they are widely linked anecdotally with many positive outcomes.

18. What is the suggested dosage?

Please refer to our detailed dosage guidelines insert, which can be found inside your CBD Oil packaging.

19. How long will a bottle last?

This will naturally depend on dosage, but a survey from our clients revealed that each bottle of CBD Oil lasts an average of six weeks.

20. Is Dutchy Labs packaging recyclable?

We like to say that Dutchy Lab products are hemp on the outside, hemp on the inside and take pride in the fact that we have been able to source 100% recycled hemp for our outer packaging. In addition, our glass containers are 100% recyclable, as are 95% of our lids, seals and pipettes. While we’ve worked hard to achieve these benchmarks, there’s a lot more to do – we are actively working towards being 100% sustainable as soon as we can.

21. Are Dutchy Labs formulas organic?

All our key ingredients are certified organic, including, most importantly, our hemp extract, which we source from a trusted supplier in Switzerland. We’re still working on our Essential Oils. For various reasons dictated by the locations and resources of our growers, it’s challenging to find Essential Oils that are certified organic. Regardless, ours are all grown in ways sensitive to their local environments, carefully harvested and meticulously distilled for maximum purity.

22. Are Dutchy Labs products lab tested?

Lab testing is extremely important to us and every one of our products is tested at three stages.

  • Firstly, all our individual ingredients, including the raw hemp extract, are supplied with a certificate of analysis (COA) from each one of our suppliers. We use COAs to ensure every ingredient we select is up to our high standards.
  • Second stage is random testing – we send off samples of our ingredients to be tested, to ensure the products we have received are consistent.
  • Finally, we test every batch of each product to ensure you as the consumer get the product you have ordered. We use an internationally, ISO accredited testing company to undertake both our random and batch testing.

We test frequently and thoroughly so we can guarantee the product you buy contains the amount of CBD it advertises, that it’s safe to use and contains no illegal compounds (THC and CBN).

We believe every CBD company should be meeting this minimum standard as it’s the only way to ensure optimum clarity and purity.

23. Are Dutchy Labs formulas suitable for vegans?

All of our products are suitable for vegans, with one exception – our CBD Skin Balm contains a small quantity of unrefined beeswax. We are currently testing alternatives to beeswax so that our whole product range can be vegan certified.

24. Are Dutchy Labs formulas tested on animals?

None of our products are ever tested on animals and they are all cruelty-free, it goes without saying that we do not use Palm oil in our products either.
